I'm trying to zero in on a good blank for a short (5 to 5 1/2 feet) flounder rod for bottom fishing from a boat using 17lb test. I'm looking for something just right for flounder which would be a little under sized for some light inshore trolling.
The Calstar blanks 655L-B and 6455L-B caught my attention. Anyone out there have any experience with them? I'm going to order a few different blanks with the hopes of finding one I want. I fopund the GF600XL. Maybe I could cut 6" off the butt? Anyone have experience with the Lami CGBT72-1LL or 1LLL? Maybe I could chop one of those? Can someone here help me get find something close. I don't want to have to return a dozen different blanks..... Thanks Paul Re: Calstar 655L-B Blank

Hi Paul I have built literally hundred of the CS 655L and CS 6455Ls over the years . Bothe are wonderful blanks but unfortunately I cant tell you how they relate to your fishing since I am on the West coast. Usually we fish for our flat fish with rods that are 6 foot or better. I use the CS655L and 6455L a lot for lite line trolling in Baja. The difference between the two is that the 6455L shuts off a bit faster than the 655L but both are great blanks. The 600XL is also an exceptional blank and can be used for the same stuff the other two are. If sensitivity is an issue then it might fit your needs better. It is hard for me to say because, like I said I dont know much about the techniques and depths your working for the flounder. Cant give you any input on the Lami. If you need any other info feel free to email me direct at docski377@aol.com hope that helps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
