Clear Coat on Wraps

I was curious if anyone has tried automotive clear coats on guide and butt wraps? Will it work? I have used it on blanks with great success. But never on the wraps. Upper grade auto clears have UV shields in them and I was wondering if this would keep wraps from fading as much or from fading at all. I know they are costly, but I own a collision shop and do high end restorations and customs as well. So i can get what I want and never miss it. We always have several gallons of Dupont and Spies Hecker around. Thanks in advance.
HAGO!

No, the thread will still fade under any clear finish. But, the finish you speak of is a quality exterior urethane and would be great on wraps provided you had a good way to apply it and could get the depth you need without having to add multiple coats. That's the biggest problem I see - not the durability which should be excellent, but the application of something like that. Tape off and work around all the guides? Might be a bit of a pain.

I've worked with Imron and Centari (acylic enamel) and always wondered if it could be brushed. But I never tried it. Still think it would be so thin that multiple coats would be needed. And I don't have to tell you about breathing the vapors.

If you try this, please let us know how things work out.

Looks like you're the guy in the perfect position to do the research....Give it a go and let the rest of us know how it works out.
