I am curious as to how many of you who do feather inlays do what was recommended in Russ Gooding's article regarding microwaving and washing your feathers? I have some 10+ year old necks for fly-tying that have been sitting in a tackle box for years and they look the same as the day I bought them.
Kate (Davidson), if you are reading this please chime in...should I do anything to preserve the feathers I purchased from you? Re: Preserving feathers for inlays

It depends. Some tyers end up with necks and feathers that get ruined due to insect infestation. Others don't. It probably has to do with whether you ever get any into your feather stash via a new neck or batch of feathers that have them.
Since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, it might be wise to do as Russ says and prevent any future problems. You could email Kate and ask her - she may never see your post here. .............. Re: Preserving feathers for inlays

I stick mine in the freezer Re: Preserving feathers for inlays

Many use large glass jars which has the added advantage of being able to see all the beauties clearly. Kate Siskiyou Aviary Re: Preserving feathers for inlays

Freezer bags then the freezer. I figure the cold will kill and little buggies. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
