I have looked in the sponsor's list at the left but cant find a red ringed guide. What I am needing is a guide to use as the transfer guide on the simple twisted version for a Bass rod with the red guide ring.
I have done the search and this rod really doesn't need a ruby ring. Thanks,Mike Re: need Red Ring guide

I think Amtak has a REd frame, and the old Agate guides are Red. Or for $200 a Fuji Ruby, but you aren't interested in those....cheapskate! Re: need Red Ring guide

Mike
Try looking at agate or agatine(sic) guides. I believe there are some with red rings. Thomas F. Thornhill Re: need Red Ring guide

Golden Witch has a few options in red ringed guides. Agate or agatine, I forget which.
I don't really know what type wrap you're talking about so that's about all I can recommend. I don't think anyone makes a red ceramic ring, but I can't say for sure. ........... Re: need Red Ring guide

Tom,
I am talking about the simple spiral as in the Vol.8 #2 . Where we only use one guide to make the transition. What I want to do is use an extra nice guide for the transition. That's where everyone will be looking anyway we might as well give them something to look at. Thanks,Mike Re: need Red Ring guide

Don't use any guides to make the transition. The "bumper" guide doesn't transition the line so be careful there - you don't want any up or down line pressure on it. The line just goes from the butt to the second guide and passes straight through the bumper - the bumper doesn't transition it. The only place the line should ever touch the bumper would be in the bottom of the guide ring, pressing it into the blank. If the line touches either side, even under load, it's not properly placed.
I had someone else bring a rod by the other day and he had placed the supposed bumper guide so that it transitioned the line. You don't want it to do that. Luckily he had an easy fix - he moved his ill-placed bumper to the 180 degree position and then installed a true bumper guide between the first and second guide. Red would look neat, but again I just don't know if anybody makes red ceramics. American Tackle, Batson or Pac Bay would be the best likely sources. .......... Re: need Red Ring guide

Thanks Tom,
I understood the concept, I was using the wrong word. "Bumper" Guide not Transition. got it. Hey Billy,Come on, some of the guys down here wouldn't have a 200 dollar ring on there finger much less 9 of them on there rod. I'm not the cheapskate you know our kind will build anything for a price.Though we may not put our name on it . Later,Mike Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
