Repair question

I just repaired a rod that broke about 5" from the tip. I used an oversleeve but the ID was too small to use a plug with it also. My question is, would the stress be higest or lowest directly under a double foot guide? The repair is located so that I could place the guide on the sleeve over the break or next to it. Which would give me the most strength

I would think on the sleeve itself. You don't want an oversleeve AND a plug. That would make it too stiff, I think. Why not just leave the guide where it is?? Re: Repair question

You should be ok with the guide on the sleeve Mike. The only drawback is that the sleeve raises the guide and makes the repair a bit more noticible. There should be no problem with stress if the sleeve is of the right material and of adequate length to make the repair. I guess I'm saying if the repair is good, it really won't matter if the guide is on, above or below. Re: Repair question

The greatest stress will always occur exactly between any pair of guides. If you use enough guides, this isn't a problem, however.
I'd say the same thing, it really won't matter much whether you leave it where it is or move it onto the sleeve. And yes, you only need the oversleeve on such a repair. In fact, what you don't want to do is make the repaired area too stiff - you need to keep the same continuity of action/flex in that area or the rod will just fail at the extreme of either end of the repair. .........
