It occurred to me last night as I was positioning the guides to find optimum placement that everything about the rod I am making is American made.
The grips I turned myself from cocobolo wood (OK the wood itself came from south of the border). The blank is a Calstar (USA company). The Butt cap and the reel seat are Aftco (USA company). The guides are American Tackle (USA company). The thread for the wraps are Gudebrod (USA company). The adhesives are Trondak (USA company). The reel is an Avet (USA company). All of the labor is genuine USA talent !! Pride of workmanship and sense of accomplishment = priceless Some things in life are better off not being out sourced to overseas profiteers. A couple of possible corrections if I may. Calstar - buys graphite from China. American Tackle - all products from China.
No slant on either of these fine companies, but in today's global marketplace you will be hard pressed to find any product that is not the result of pieces from differentl locations around the world Re: American Made

This is one of those posts that can get out of hand when things turn from rod building into a discussion on trade policies. But I'm sure that won't happen here.

Put an American Flag decal on it regardless and go fishing. Re: American Made

I'm going to put an American flag and a mutton snapper decal on it along with "Made in America" just in front of the hook keeper. I'm keeping the thread work near the butt to a minimum because this is my first go at wrapping. After I feel more proficient, I will try decorative wraps.
I would like to have it near completion by the end of the week, it depends on how well things go with my day job. Curtis Beers Re: American Made

The world is getting " small " who cares where it came from, as long as the quality is there.

Good for you, Curtis
You should always try to endorse the local companies if possible. Although, if you were to use European products you would have a rod you can actually fish with ;) Re: American Made

That's great Curtiss. I am always happy when I can build a rod with American-made components. Don't forget to put one of those "Proudly Made in the USA" decals on it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
