I'l be building a rod for my girlfriends aunt's son. He's just learning to fly fish andhis parents want to get him a rod for christmas so they asked me to build it. His favorite football team is the washington redskins and those were the colors we chose to to make the threads. Just wonderin if anyone has done a "redskins" rod yet and what colors you used. Also id like to build this rod using one of dan crafts blanks. I was just wondering how I go about getting my hands on one of his fine blanks.
Thanks, Kyle Re: Skins Colors

Last redskins post I read said Gudebrod garnet 206 was a perfect match. I've used this on the matte finishes the Dan Craft blanks come in and it is superb! Re: Skins Colors

My daughter and I do also. My son and wife jumped ship a few years back and converted to Carolina.........maybe someday they'll realize the error of their ways and repent. We've tried to get them into rehab but so far have been unsuccessful. This youngster is deserving of you best effort. You might try marbelizing to good effect. Sometimes colors are easier to match with the paint pigments (or a blend of several pigments) if you can't find a thread to match. I've placed wraps on a charcoal blank (usually garnet/burgundy or something in that color family) and tipped it with a white CP trim band. I then applied epoxy over just the white NCP. After it set, I applied the colored epoxy over the garnet thread as my primary color and used white, gold (not metallic) and a touch of black in the expoxy that I marbeled in. It turned out real well. You could try it without the white trim band; it's just that I almost always use them because I find it more pleasing to the eye in most cases. To me, the trim band gived the wrap a more finished look by providing a visual contract to the random pattern of the marbled section. Just be sure that if you're using white CP (or any light color) over a dark blank that you pack your threads tight so the blank won't show through. Re: Skins Colors

Kyle,
You can get Dan's blanks direct from him (give him a call or e-mail. For blans/components, you have to download the catalog from his web site) or several of the vendors (not sure which) to the left carry them. Mike Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
