I've been building these grouper rods with single foot fuji boat guides. After finishing them when you flex the blank it makes cracking noises. I think it is the epoxy that has accumulated at the front of the guide between the blank and the frame releasing from the blank/guide, however, it seems this should only happen after the initial flex but every time I flex it it pops and cracks like the rod is just splinterring. When my customers flex their new rod it sounds like it is going to break and I get the same glare everytime when I then have to explain that it is the epoxy and that if I had not put it there water could possibly get into the wrp and rust the guides. I do not put an excessive amount of epoxy just enough to seal the guide. Is there a way to prevent this from happening???

Noisy Rod - The last time this happened to me, some deep bending of the rod at all four points of the compass around the rod blank’s axis, worked out the tinkling sound. This rod hasn’t been wet, so I can’t say if water infiltration will be a problem. Looking at the guides and thread doesn’t show any obvious cracking. But I do know that I used a color preserver that has a very crystalline structure, and that I used far too much of it, and I suspect that that contributed to this crystal-cracking sound. After bending it a few times over a couple of days, it no longer creaks. (Thank God!) –Cliff Hall, Gainesville, FL-USA+++

Robert - What is the proper procedure for filling the guie feet tunnel? I stop the rod from turning and push a small amount of epoxy in the groove between the frame of the guide and the blank at the front of the guide, do I need to do more??
Cliff no CP was used and I've tried bending the rod but not along all of the axis points, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info Scott Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
