Here is teh original thread: [www.rodbuilding.org]
I posted a picture of my sample stick. I left it in the sun for 9 days. It saw direct sunlight for approximately 8 hours per day, and after the first day there was a change with Brand B. Brand A stayed relatively clear throughout - enough that I know I can use it and not have a catastophe a week after I deliver a rod. [www.rodbuilding.org] I will continue to these types of tests with whatever finish I plan to use. I have another stick with Brand A ovre Neon threads to see how badly the threads fade - I had this in the sun for a month in the Winter, and 9 days last week - and teh threads have faded a little, but for me I ratehr have a minute amount of fading vs. everything being Brown after a week. Billy,
How about naming the brands that you use so that your tests are helpful to all of us. I don't see how test results could be considered "flameing" a sponsor or anything and they would be very helpful! Mike Re: Epoxy vs. Sun follow up

Guys, in the picture I wrote down the names of the epoxy, as well as what each wrap was. 1 lite coat of Aftcote, one heavy GC over. 1 heavy Aftcote with 1 lite GC over.
The reason I did those 2 tests specifically is I wanted to know what would be a better idea on guide wraps. 1 penetrating coat of Aftcote, with a nice heavy finishing coat of GC, or a Aftcote built up, and a final coat of GC to put a "hard barrier" on teh outside. As I found out, I will have to re-conduct these tests with other finishes. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
