I am looking for a reasonably priced lite weight reel seat for a Dan Craft 7'6" rod I am building.

Suggested models and manufacturers would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Bailey

Look in the left hand sponsor column under Rainshadow/Forecast.

What a Amtac or Fuji 16 skeleton seat lacks in esthetics is more than made up for in practicality and price.

At the other end, look at the Golden Witch reelseats on the left. Very nice! Ralph

i have used downlocking cap and ring reel seats for that size of fly rod, even 8 footers. very nice, lightweight, minimalistic and work great. i've used a bellinger seat with nickle silver hardware on a dan craft sig V 8'-4" rod. the golden witch offerings look especially nice.

not directly a sponsor but perhaps some may offer it, landmark offers a nice lightweight aluminum hardware DL cap and ring seat in either black or clear finish, with two choices of insert wood. these are very inexpensive and work suprisingly well. i think it's the springwater model

Bailey;
I agree with David Look at Rainshadow. I just finished a 5' 2wt, this past spring. It was a nightmare to get balanced. I used a BUL5SKC-K (nickle-silver finish) and turned the insert out of a piece of black and orange marbled acrylic. It worked out better than wood inserts did in this case. The hardware (the BUL5SKC-K) was less than $15 and the acrylic blank was less than $6. I got the acrylic from a wood working shop, it is a blank used to make ink pens. If you don't wan't to turn the insert give Dave Winslow (Winslow Rods) a call. Also look to the list on the left and get a hold of Les (Inserts by Les).
The acrylic is the way to go. ( IMHO ) It is light and you can get a very "custom" look because of the different color options.
I hope this helps, and let us know what you do.

Tight lines and clean living.

Jann's carries a cork grip and reel seat with slide rings for $10. Cortland has aluminum cap and ring cork seats.

the bul5skc-k is VERY heavy. Very nice but heavy. It's nickle plated brass and is the heaviest skeleton for it's size that I've seen. Les (inserts by) can set you up with something custom and really nice with a choice of exotic woods for a great price. Buckeye burl with a black A5 skeleton is very light and very beautiful and a steal for $15. The piece I received was awesome. I liked it so much I bought a lathe and started making my own inserts and handles.

How about this seat at REC's web specials? [www.reelseats.com]

Perhaps you could turn the spacer of cork and make it even lighter? The aluminium cap and ring should not be very heavy and the price is quite tempting. You could even buy two of those and use just the slide rings and the check to go really light.?
