Hi,
I am building a 50 trolling rod for someone in Fla and they wnat the colors of the Miami Dolphins football team. I checked the website and it appears that it is teal, orange with some white in it. I use gudebrod, sulky or madiera threads. Can anyone suggest the exact colors and does anyone know of a weave for the dolphin that is on the helmet of the Miami Dolphins. I have about 6 weeks to get this done. thanks

Being a Jet fan, I really don't want to help you with this, and I hope the guy doesn't catch any fish with this rod.

There are no metallic colors to match the Orange in the Dolphins uni. Use regular Orage thread. There are a few Teal metallics from each of the companies you use, I don' thave them in front of me, an dI will never have a Dolphins Jersey in front of me, so I cna't help. I'm sur ethere are quite a few Floridians here who can help you however.

You may find that the NCP version puts you closer to the actual colors and shades than regular nylon. But you'd be close with either, really. Here are the Gudebrod colors, non-metallic:

221 Orange

272 Teal

027 Lt. Blue

If you use NCP, then I think the 272 Teal is closest. In regular nylon, the 027 Lt. Blue seems closer.

Regardless of the type thread, I think you'll want your white in NCP.

I just built a 30-80lb. stand-up and donated it to the celebrity @#$%& they had about 3 weeks ago and they put a reel on it[don't know what kind or size] and got $1,150.00 for it. I used a Stuart Black and Gold Unibutt [ UB24 Short], Gator Blank, Stuart Gold Roller Guides and Tip. Had a 12" Eva foregrip with a 2.5" Hozel, black marble background with a metal Dolphin Helment with the Dolphin in it in team colors. I used double wrapped NCP White [Gudebrod] as the underwrap with 1/8 Copper Metallic Tape[Witchcraft] with 1/16 black pin striping tape in the center of the copper which really looks orange. For the overwrap I used Gudebrod Aquamarine Metallic, Double wrapped in size D. The colors weren't exact but there was no doubt what they were for and the Dolphins were happy. Jesse

Frank

If you deal with Angler's Worshop (one of our sponsors): They have some of their own colors which help to fill in some of the ones that are missing from the more common suppliers. Their Teal color is a very good match for the Dolphins uniforms.

Good Luck

I have a couple of decals if you want them let me know via email and I will send them to you. If you do thse rods be sure and use the NCP orange and follow up with at least two coats of CP. The orange is one of the toughest ones to pack a band of A an not have it splotch.

Frank, I am a J-E-T-S fan and can't stand the fins! However, my wife forced me to build her a rod with the Dolphins colors. I mixed and matched metallic teal, NCP orange and NCP white. It came out really sharp. It is on a white blank so the colors jump out at you. After 15 years the Flexcoat has turned a nasty amber color.
Now with Ricky back, you may have to learn how to weave the pot leaf pattern!
Good Luck with the rod! Ed
