I'm working on a St. Croix II for a friend of mine. Last night I had one of those moments. I was putting the handle on and I reached up and grabbed the blank, I had epoxy on my fingers. (Flex Coat) I noticed it so I put a little bit of alcohol on a rag and wiped it off. While I was in the process of doing that I grabbed the blank with my other epoxy tipped fingers. I didn't notice that and it dried to the blank. Is there anyway to clean up my mistake with out damaging the finish on the rod blank.

It should pop off when dry with your finger nail. I have watched the guys at the Allstar Plant in Houston remove unwanted finish spots with a new sharp razor blade. They do not make any attempt to slice off the splotches but hold the blade vertical to the bland and lightly move it back and forth. Whatever you do be careful and do not use a blade of any type in a cutting motion - scrape will do fine. I tend to get what I can off easily and use Staybright Marine Polish with Teflon to do a final wipedown of the rod. This will make all of the rod surface brighter and shiney and tends to make any finish spots vanish.

Warm it with a torch and scrape it off with your finger nail. Jesse Re: How do i get it off
