A little warning in case anyone is as dumb as me (I doubt it)
Found out the hard way that you need to flock AFTER all epoxy is done! I flocked the reel seat before it was on the rod. Big mistake! When I applied epoxy to the thread leading up to the seat, the flock acted like a wick pulling the finish into it. Still a good rod but looks like crap and flock is hard where the epoxy wicked into it. Had to build a new rod for customer (I always wanted a rod like that in my personal arsenal!!) I just posted a pic of it on the Photo Page Mike Re: Flock Mistake

I'll have to try and remember that if I ever get one of those flockers, Mike. Looks good for what that's worth. You could tell him you were going for the "hard" look?? Putter Williston, ND Re: Flock Mistake

Maybe try an experiment and see if another coat of flock might correct the problem?

You will be hard pressed to apply another coat of flock - the first application is pretty much it. You can't go back and just apply more adhesive over what you have now and re-flock. That would create a terrible mess.
What you may be able to do, although this is still risky, would be to apply more finish and see if you can get the edge around the circumference to be more uniform. To hope that the flock will wick up finish equally all the way around by rotating the rod by hand and trying to get the finish where you want it. But again, you may only end up making the situation worse. ............... Re: Flock Mistake

Tom,
I tried that and it didn't help. It was a lesson learned (and shared) actually, not that painful as it is a fine rod and I now have it in my own collection and it will get a lot of use jigging for walleye iin the cold March mornings (that flocking is warm and comfortable) Mike Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
