For anyone who has dealt with making cane rods, after you glue your strips what do you guys do to make them arrow straight. I lay them on a flat piece of wood and roll them out like you would make a play dough snake. This works well for me for the butt sections but not as well for the tips. I usually find that they are bent slightly up by the very tip. Since I have only made one blank so far is there anyway for me to get the kinks out of the already glued pieces? LIke heat straightening. Ironing? something?
Thanks, Kyle Re: Gluing Bamboo Blanks

There was a whole series of articles on how to bulid bamboo rods in Rodmaker back in volume 4 I think. I didn't pay much attention because I don't work with bamboo, but I'd bet your answer is in there if you can find the copy that had the article on glue up of the pieces. For some reason I think you heat and straighten them while they're still wrapped or bound?? Don't quote me on that though. Re: Gluing Bamboo Blanks

You can return to the planning form and iron it. The best way is to take it out of the string and get the tea pot cookin'... the one with the spout... with that stream of steam you can straighten an "S" curve. work slowly and keep moving the blank over the steam... of course bending the heated (steamed) area the opposite direction of the set.. You will make it as straight as you want.. Be careful... that steam is VERY hot and will burn you..
Tight lines & smokin' drags.......... Art Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
