I have a request for a surf rod as a present for a gentleman in Florida. I don't have any info on where or how he fishes. So...what questions do you surf guys usually ask to determine the correct build for the customer? Thanks for the help.

Carrington,
This is a toughie. I suspect that this is a surprise present, which makes it all the harder for you to get right. I build surf rods more than any other type of stick. What you hope to get into more than direct questions with your customer is dialogue then you get mostly to what is really wanted. Just because for instance this customer lives at x does not mean he wants a rod to fish there. You may wish to consider explaining to your customer that the present is more likely to be deeply appreciated if the recipricant can have the pleasure in working with a custom builder to create the rod of his/her dreams. I don't see how you can tackle this any other way. Your customer may just as well buy a ready made factory rod otherwise. Sorry can't help more Regards Mike OLiver Re: surf rod request

Thanks Barry, Mike.
Mike, i agree. i will see if a gift certificate or something to that effect can be worked out, so he can fill me in on what he would really want. Appreciate the responses. Carrington Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
