Has anyone tried Devon 5 Minute Epoxy for gluing cork together for handles.I hear Titebond 3 and Rodbond are best but Im in a place where they are not readily accessible. Re: cork glue

I have used it on a couple of rods. The only downfall is the short working time that comes with the 5 min. I have had no problems and the rods that I have built using it have survived the California Valley Sunshine and heat ,105-110 for the last two plus weeks!!! Re: cork glue

Nothing wrong with it, but you'll play heck gluing more than a few rings together before it sets. In fact, it'll likely set before you can get it clamped. Not a good idea. Use the slow cure stuff and give yourself a bit more time to get things together the way you want.

I've used it alot when glueing directly to the blank. I can get about 10-15 rings on per mix.. ...Apply a glob directly to the sanded blank, press a pre- reamed cork, spin the cork ring a couple times under pressure (squeezing out excess), and repeat. Once the epoxy starts to thicken too much (3-4 minutes'ish), wipe off the excess, and use your two hands, fingers, and forearms, as a clamp for the next 5 minutes between your cork rings.
This method comes in handy when a surf rod wants a 26" rear grip (52 rings), and a 6" fore (12 more). Its not the best method, granted, but its worked for me a couple/few times. The bonus of 5 minute is that you can be sanding within the hour. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
