I'm looking for a "heavyweight" spin blank for bass with a fast action. It's for my dad, his med. Ugly Stik is too light for some important bass applics. He can't use a baitcaster all that well, so spinning is the only choice. I was thinking a custom rod woul make a nice birthday gift, any suggestions on blanks or rod kits? Re: Heavy spinning blank

Chris, Is this rod being used for Striped Bass? on a boat, or for casting plugs? if Striped Bass, I built my dad a meat stick out of a 5.5' stand up blank rated for 20-40 test. I mounted a Shimano 6500 Baitrinner on it. It is perfect for live bunker or chunks or even trolling plugs off of our boat. Ed Re: Heavy spinning blank

Naw, Ed, it's not for stripers. The rod I want to build is going to do the heavier end of fishing for largemouth. We do have a couple stripers in the local lake I fish though. Very few but quite big. They've pulled a couple 40+ lbers. out of it but their considered a nuisance fish at this lake & therfore are eradicated when caught & usually reported to the lake manager. ( it's a private reservoir for members only, so it's their rules...) Re: Heavy spinning blank

Thanks for the email Spencer, was appreciated. I think I'll go with the Lamiglass or maybe a St. Croix III blank, their both not bad at all. Lamiglas is on sale at Mudhole though.... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
