I am making a rod eye guide V-Block(for lack of not knowing the correct name) setup to hold the rod while you are wrapping. The question is ,with the butt of the rod to your left which way do you roll the rod when wrapping? I need this info to correctly position my spool holder/tensioner. I also am making a dryer setup. I should finish this project today. My total cost will be the price of the felt for the v-block rests. I had everything else laying around my shop.

Dick, if you ask 40 rod builders that question you'll get answers about 21-19 and I won't guess which way is which. This is one to go with the direction that you find easiest. My thread is turned over the blank away from me. Look at the thread carriage on the Flex-Coat hand wrappers, I've had the SW-1 Flex-Coat hand wrapper for several years and use nothing else now. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Roll rod which direction????

Either direction is good as long as you have a clear view of the thread as it comes onto the rod. I think it was in a past issue of Rodmaker that said that if you bring it onto the rod from behind, bring it from on high. If you bring it onto the rod from in front, bring it from below. Correct me if I am wrong but is sounds as if you are making a permanent rest for your spool tensioner? If so you may want to consider using something so you can adjust you tensioner to more than one location and wrapping on the ends .vs. the middle. I built my wrapper using some old scraps laying around, like you and I made everything fully adjustable(almost to the point of pain) and it works well. Consider a movable stand for your thread carriage and you should be fine. My one cent :) Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
