Gatti impressions

I'm wondering if anyone has any comments on the Gatti FR-TA series of blanks. I'm looking to build something in the 5-6wt class and was wondering if they're worth the extra doe. I've heard that they are much more brittle/fragile than you're average blank. Is this true? Any info woulld be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well I have built about three gatti;s and have fished all of the high end blanks that gatti has put out. I have not had any breakage issues with these blanks. however I can see where one could. The blanks are thin walled and the ferrules do need to be wrapped before use.but haveing said all of this the FR-TA is a very nice blank ,a good caster can throw a lot of line with these rods hope I helped, Dewey Linski

As Dewy said, nice blanks. Of the limited number I've tried I like the FRHP line better over all, fits my style better. How they make them fast actioned, light, and smooth casting at the same time with good fishability surprises me. flyanglersonline.com tested some Gattis some years ago, the reviews can be found in their archives. Christian Brink has built probably as many Gattis as anyone if you need more info. His wife's rod is one fine stick. I believe it's a FRHP 5 wt.

Haven't tried the FR-TA. I have a FRHP 8'6" 4wt and love it. I'm a bit suprised that I haven't broken it yet with it's rep for being so fragile. I've dropped it, banged it around, got it caught in branches, etc. and it's still going strong. Best rod I've ever used. It's quite expensive but I wouldn't trade it for a Sage, Loomis, T&T, Winston, Scott, or any other more expensive rod.
