I'm building a St. Croix Legend Ultra 9', 9 wt., for my brother. Does anyone have expereince with this model, and if so what line would you recommend? I was hoping for a SA or Rio. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Re: Line Recommendations for SCIV 909

I have used a 6WT line on a 5WT . Found it would cast nice and load with a nice feeling to it
A 7WT I used a 7 line. These were factory rods and I used Cortland 444 weight forward. Those you mentioned are very good lines Re: Line Recommendations for SCIV 909

It really depends on the type of fishing he'll be doing...the 909-4 SCIV is probably best with a 9 weight line at most distances. Only if you'll be casting less than 20' consistently would I suggest uplining.
If distance is the only concern, you can't do better than an integrated shooting head line like the Airflo 40+ Distance. A good balance between distance and line management is a longbelly line like the Scientific Anglers Steelhead Taper. Big flies and short casts would make a short head line like the Rio Clouser or Scientific Anglers Headstart (it's cheap, too!) a great choice. The Lumalux Clouser, if they still make it, is the slickest line Rio has and one of the neatest lines I own. If you want to go Cortland, the 444 is a tested and proven line. Technologically, nothing special, but gets the job done well and holds up forever. The 555, well, you couldn't pay me enough to fish that. I think my last one is still in a giant snarl somewhere. Worst memory I've ever seen. Scott Kinney The Longest Cast Fly Rods [www.thelongestcast.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
