Streamer rod

Any suggestions for a streamer rod around 6wt? Not too fast to avoid the dreaded "boing boing" as the line extends. Open loops are favored with these heavy flies. What about a Dan Craft rod?

I'm going to be honest here and steer you towards a Rainshadow RX7 model. They're not terribly fast and for that reason they work a little better IMO when you want a little more open loop. Course the size of the loop depends as much on your casting as anything else.

Richard--Henry's right about the RX7 being a fantastic streamer rod in 6/7wts. However, Dan's Sig III's aren't bad if he's got any left (we're sold out) and his FT's are simply phenomenal streamer sticks, though I really prefer the 7wt in 9ft as the tip has a little more stiffness than the 6's and under in my experience. The 10ft-ers may be the ultimate streamer stick in terms of action and power. Get the 1004 or 1005 and you won't look back.

Enjoy the quest! :)

Heck, I fished a 662-2 RX7 last weekend with streamers...and did quite well.

The V's are nice rods but I don't know if I'd build one as a dedicated streamer rod. All around, for sure...but maybe a tad too quick for streamers.

One of the best streamer rods I've had was a 9'0", trimmed to 8'9" 5/6 weight St. Croix SCII.

I'll second the Sig V for a bit slower streamer rod over the FT, in a 6wt , should work great .
John.
