Fitting cork handles?

I'd like to ask a question about using premade cork fly rod handle. On my first one for my rod, I learned the hard way about fitting the handle when I used the reamers to much and just about rendered it useless. How do I ream & fit these handles to the blank? Should the handle be reamed so that it fits by pushing it up the butt of the blank or should it be slid down the blank fron the first ferrule area? Any help appreciated. Re: Fitting cork handles?

Grips go on from the tip and are slid towards the butt.
Reamers are better used in a twisting motion rather than push-pull. And, you need a few different sizes. You want the reamer to closely match the bore of the handle. As the bore enlarges, move up to the next larger sized reamer. Working with a small reamer in a large bore results in off-center bores and rear areas that are far to large in diameter. Go slow, and check for fit often. Try to ream until the grip will easily slide to within about a half inch of its intended destination (this is for a cork grip). Also remember to blow out the grip bore before test fitting. You don't want any grit from your reamer to scratch your blank. ......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
