graphite rings in handle

A couple of years ago I bought a custom rod that was made by some guy in Cleveland, Tennessee. The handle in all this guy's rods has alternating cork and a dark gray material that appears to be graphite or some form of plastic...it is definately not cork. I really loved this handle. I would love to find out where to get this material and make similar handles of my own. Has anybody heard of this stuff and where one might get some?

Check the OD measurement of it. I don't know if the rings will fit onto it.
Also try a search of this board. There were some posts of places to buy tubes of material.
Also try a search of your ISP. Just type in the material you are looking for like graphite tubes, and it Should give many places to look.

Some thing else that might help - [www.customtackle.com]

graphite arbors shaped to fit with the cork a great amount of builders have done this to create better sensitivity to the rod. many sponsers on the side have these in stock i have done this before on smaller rods like my perch rods you can almost detect every little nibble.......just look for reel seat arbors

Steve, could the dark rings be some sort of gasket material? Or material used to add accent to knife handles?

Stan
