I've been asked to build a 7-wt fly rod for a friend in Ft Myers, FL I have the blank, and want to use ceramic guides. I'm planning on guide sizes of 12, 10, 2*8, and 6*7 , with a 7 tip top. Does that seem about right for a 7-wt for redfish and sea trout setup to you salt water folks? Should I use a 16 stripper guide and just one 8 instead? We don't use that kind of rod too much in New Mexico unless we're fishing for pike or stripers (really!)

A 12 is probably okay, although I'd opt for the higher spinning frame style, something like an SVSG. Back the 12 with a 10, leave out the 8's and just drop on down to 7's.

Check out the guides with the titanium frames for saltwater use. The owner will thank you many times over due to no corrosion.
