Foot prep on Gold coloured guides

I have assembled three rods in the past, all with chrome snake guides. I am currently in the process of assembling two more. One will have gold coloured single foot guides. The question is do I need to colour the the guide foot after prepping the guide? I will be using a nylon thread with no colour preserver. If I need to colour the foot, what should be used?

The foot discoloration will likely show through. As far as what to color the guide with, that's tough. Maybe one of the gold colored gel pens and then that coated with some color preserver so you don't smear or lose the gel pen ink when you hit it with finish. But colorwise, that could be a tough match.

I've used gold colored pen. Not a perfect match but looks fine under transparent brown wraps.

Chris. . . If none of the above don't work to your satisfaction, I would consider covering the foot with gold leaf. You can buy it at Michael's hobby stores or most any hobby store. If you aren't close to a hobby store you can get it thru an internet website.

Go with Bob T's suggestion and go to Michael's hobby store or any good hobbie outlet. My I suggest that you put a light coat of CP on the leaf and let it set a couple of hrs. before wrapping. This well stop the gold from bleeding threw

Try Rustoleum Specialty Metallics. It is a close match for gold(s). Under the transparent epoxied thread it works fine.

Testors makes an Enamel Paint Marker that works well. It comes in several colors including metallic gold and silver. Cover with a coat of color preserver. They're usually available in stores that sell plastic models.
