I'm in the process of build my first rod (medium weight spinning rod). I'm not very happy with the job I did while epoxy coating the guide wraps. Is it okay to lightly sand the coating and apply another coating? - Sam Re: Is it okay to sand and apply another coat?

Scared me when I first tried it because all the finish turned white from sanding, but when the next batch of finish went on, was clear as could be.

Got to wipe them off after you sand them and take the sanding dust off. Re: Is it okay to sand and apply another coat?

As a newbie rod builder, I've found that light sanding after the first coat of epoxy on guide wraps also works okay for getting rid of unoticed "thread fuzzies". I'll use a nail clipper or Exacto knife to remove the bump caused by the fuzzie part, sand the area lightly and then clean it and finally apply the next coat of epoxy. I'm using flexcoat low build and usually a second coat is needed to level out the first coat and any bumps. There's probably a bunch of other ways to deal with this problem and I'd love to hear them.
Thanks. Brad Re: Is it okay to sand and apply another coat?

Also Before you coat and right after you finish a wrap, Check it for any fuzzies. These can be taken care of with a bic lighter. Light the lighter ( away from the thread ) then pase it under the thread with out touching the thread and only a quick pase. If you hit the thread or go slow, you will burn it and it will unravel.

Wet sanding paper not only cuts better, but it doesn't "dust", just wipe as you go.
