Help with a hollow internal ferrule

I'm trying to fix my beginner's mistake I made with a Scott spey rod I built a few years ago.
This rod has hollow internal ferrules, and I didn't wrap one of the female ferrules to the very end of that section. Over time, the female ferrule has become loose (although no visible cracks), and it seemed its internal diameter would eventually become larger than the diameter of the male part.
Since this is an internal ferrule, the rod would be wasted once the female part becomes too loose for the male part.
I double-wrapped that part really tight and put a thick coat of finish. It seems to be OK for now.
I guess I can't shrink a female ferrule once it becomes loose. But, any of you know if there's something else I can do to prevent this ferrule from becoming too loose for the male part? Or, did I ruin this rod?

You may be able to send the rod or section back for replacement, depending on whether the rod was covered under their unconditional warranty or not.

They acknowledge that the male ferrule will wear over time in their guide spacing sheet, and state that the reason for the 1/4" or so space is so this can happen over the life of the rod.

It's a common problem with an easy solution. Just trim about 1/8th inch from the bottom of the female ferrule and replace your reinforcement wrap. All will be well once again.

I'd still check and see if it were covered under warranty before trimming.

One thing's for sure, if there was a warranty, you trim it, and then something else breaks, you could easily be out of luck as the modification will have voided your warranty.

Just use a dremel and trim about 1/8 off and with luck you wont have to rewrap. This is a easy fix.
Thanks Dave

Maybe you could apply a very thin coat of rod finish to the male ferrule and sand it down until it fits the way you like.
