I found an alternative to the threaded male PVC cap and built some cases. I thought I would share what I did because it was cheaper that an aluminum case. The cheapest aluminum tube that I could find was $19.99 and then you had to add shipping to that, These cases cost me about $10 each.
Materials: Grey PVC tubing PVC End Cap Black rubber cap (the ones I bought had hose clamps with them) Plastic paint Webbing Rivets 5 min epoxy Steps Cut the pipe to length Clean with alcohol or whatever you chose Scuff up the pipe on one end and the inside of the PVC cap Glue the end cap on (I used 5 min. epoxy Paint the pipe Let dry then paint with a clear coat Cut webbing to length I folded over the ends of the webbing and heated up a small round file to burn two holes on each end to put rivets through Rivet the webbing on as a handle Put the black rubber cap on (You could use the hose clamp for transportation but it is a snug enough fit to use without. Extra steps: I used a Dremel tool with a sanding but to clean up the opening of the pipe where I would insert the rod. I printed the make, size and year on a label and attached it to the tube I bought foam pipe insulation and stuffed some in the bottom of the tube to protect the rods. Here is a picture of how they turned out. Not a great picture I know. [www.west4me.com] Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/04/2005 11:53PM by William Cunningham. Re: PVC Cap again (photo)

just my .02 but you might think about using the pvc pipe cement.
a can of it will last a long time nomore than will be used on the cap and it will probly be alot cheaper in the long run than using the apoxy and it dries pretty quick. when you apply the cement just turn the cap 1/4 turn and hold for a few seconds and its on there to stay. david williams Re: PVC Cap again (photo)

I found the rubber cap at Ace Hardware in the plumbing section. They are called Quick Caps. I had the epoxy and didn't need a entire can of the PVC cement. But to each their own. Re: PVC Cap again (photo)

Marc
That is a nice set up. I like the cord to hold the cap . I would go that way if I had the room to paint it and clear it. The grass out side would all be dead . Landlord would not like that LOL Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/06/2005 08:28AM by bill boettcher. Re: PVC Cap again (photo)

And another PVC method. I found light weight PVC at a plumbing supply house that is used for house vacuum systems. It comes in 10 ft. lenths and costs about $5.00 a lenth wholesale. Caps available to fit. Not interchangeable with regular PVC piping. The small diameter and light weight can also help save a few bucks at the post office if you have to mail it.
If you want a kinda neat finish on the outside of the tube get yourself some twine in different colors and wrap the tube with it. Some double stick tape on the tube to hold the twine until you can seal it with whatever. larry Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
