I have been asked now four times this year if I could package a reel with the rod I build just so the person buying the rod has absolutely nothing to do other than tell me exactly what they want. I was wondering if it is worth packagong the rod/reel together. It is a way to make a couple more dollars and there is absolutely no work involved. How many of you guys/gals out there do this upon request. Thanks for your input, Bryan. I'm leaning towards do whatever the customer asks.

I've sold reels along with my rods on several occasions. Never had a problem. Basically, if I know what reel they are going to buy for the rod, and I can get a good price on that reel, they'll generally buy it from me. I'll bring it down to the tackle shop and have it spooled with whatever line they want as well (they pay for it of course).

Even if I don't sell my customer a reel, I will almost always have them send or bring me their reel so I can do the guide placement and testing casting, etc with their reel in place.

To set up the new concept guide system you will need the reel anyway.I take the rod with handle and seat attached and select the reel I want(or let the friend I`m building for do it).This is the only way to get it maximized.

If you are already in the business of marketing custom rods, you most likely have wholesale accounts in place. Since you are already familiar with that process go ahead and set up an account or two with distributors that deal in reels and/or tackle. This way you are able to purchase these items (reels and line) at lower prices. Spool them up and make another dollar.

Thanks for the input I had just set up an account with tackle wholesalers today to get this ball rolling. It is all about the bottom line, after doing what you love, and getting to paid to do it. Hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th, Bryan.
