I'm about to build another rod (this time for myself)!
I read the artical in rod makers mag about spiral wraps and want to give it a shot.
My question is this......Throughout the article it talks about using this method for baitcasting rods.
Pardon my ignorance but ,can it be used with good effect for a light lure(1/2 -2 oz) surf rod?

Yes, the term "baitcasting" generally refers to the use of any conventional type reel, level wind, baitcasting, etc.

Would the Spiral give any/much advantage to a 7'6" Rogue Flipping Stick. I have one on order for myself and concidered the spiral.

Is there a basic chart available that shows measurements of where to place guides using a spiral/acid wrap available for all length rods? I spent time searching until tired, and have no back issue's of anything since I'm fairly new to rodbuilding.

Whether a spiral or coventional rod, there is no such animal as an accurate "generic" chart that applies to all rods.There are just to many factors that enter into it besides length (which is probably the least important factor) that determine the optimum size/location for guides. blank characteristics/specs and reel size, IMO, are the most important. Since there is a variance between "identicle" blanks, a static distribution test (see Library above) is the only way to get optimal performance from your setup. Even the manufacturer's charts should only be used as a starting point, as they are rarely the most efficient since they have no way of knowing the action of your blank, or your reel specs.

If you are looking for an easy to set up and well performing spiral setup, consider the "bumper" system outlined in a recent Rodmaker issue. Do a search on bumper wrap on this site.
