Advice needed on Rainshadow surf blanks. I've built plenty of freshwater rods but only one surf rod, that was a stingsilver (2 oz) rod built on an All Star blank which alas is no longer available.
Looking mainly at the Rainshadow SU 1266F and SU 1267F, will consider others also. Would build as spinning rods. Two questions: (1) What lure weight are these two blanks sweet at? (I'm hoping one is just right for 6 oz.) (2) Are rods built on these blanks superior to the ready-made Sealine-X and Tica rods that I currently use? Re: Rainshadow Surf Blanks

If you want a 6oz rod, get the 1418. The 1266 & 1267 are better at 3-4 oz. Re: Rainshadow Surf Blanks

If you want a quality blank at a good price go to Mudhole's Rod Blank Specials page and check out the Surf Rocket Special Rod Blanks model LSB1322M. I've built quite a few of these, both conventional and spinning, and they can handle 6 ounces just fine without being too much of a meat stick. The rods I've built have caught every type of fish on the Outer Banks from whiting to drum with no problem. And it'll leave a little lunch money in your pocket.
I'd say even a now out-of-circulation AllStar 1267 is a little light for handling 6 with ease. Re: Rainshadow Surf Blanks

I know I'm chiming in late here, but Mud Hole has the Cascade (Rainshadow) SU1502 blank on clearance right now as well.
