I am new to rod building. I have a custom made rod that has a smaller grip both in diameter and length. My fiance enjoys using it because the grip is small and her hand is especially small. I am going to build her a rod and would like to find a smaller grip for her. Can you please give me info on any specific sites that offer such a grip. thank you scott Re: smaller cork grips?

I don't know if you'll find a pre-formed cork grip sized like that; they're all pretty much standard in size.
You can put a pre-formed on an all-thread rod, stick it in your drill, and sand it to the shape and diameter that she'll like, though... You'll need to go through varying grits of sandpaper towards the end to get it smooth. Putter Williston, ND Re: smaller cork grips?

Scott,
What kind of rod is this grip on? A flyrod, spinning rod, baitcast, other? If it's a flyrod, I've recently built a flyrod with a pre-formed grip from Mudhole tackle comprised of species cork that is known as "knotty cork". This grip was quite small. A little too small for my taste. Even though I've been building rods (recreationally) for about twenty years I still have very rudementary tools, and as Randy mentioned, a drill, all-thread, and a variety of sand paper can go pretty far. So, shaping your own wouldn't be too difficult of a task. Torin. Re: smaller cork grips?

if you're not ready to shape your own grip, and if this is for a fly rod, and you have no use for an inletted grip for the seat (would use a downlocking cap and ring style), there is a slim version of a cigar shape available if you look around. i think anglers's workshop had one pictured. just cut off a bit from the butt end if you want it shorter.

Scott,
Again for Angler's, they have a 6 1/2 in small diameter full wells grip that a lot of ladies really like. Re: smaller cork grips?

Hey fellas thank you for the pointers. I found the right grip on a rod online but still cant find the grip for sale that i want. the grip was on an orvis superfine bamboo rod. the description was as follows: cork reel seat incorporated into the cork grip and has 2 sliding aluminum knurled bands and aluminum butt cap, flat side on the seat for reel foot. overall length of handle is 8 1/4" long, grip being 5" and seat 3 1/4". If this helps with understanding what i am looking for please help. Thanks guys.
