Static Guide Placement Distribution

I have always used the static guide placement technique along with the Morton equal angle guide placement chart. After reading the new spiral wrap article in RodMaker Magazine I got the idea of turning the blank so the guides are facing upward. That way I can move the guides until the line is just above the blank but not touching it. Do any of you use this technique? Seems like I heard about it before somewhere. That's how the online library article here shows to do it. In fact, that's how most static placement methods describe it.
