I need some advise on the handle assembly for a two fisted fly rod.... 14 foot rod.. want to cast it a mile with a heavy fly... any suggestions as to length of grips placement of reel seats and grips would be very helpfull..Using a split grip concept ????? Long rear grips ????? I am lost here . . .
Thanks in advance, Art mrparramoure@yahoo.com AKA: Fred Halfheimers, Norman Nesico, George Orwell Re: Help with handle assemblies for 14 foot fly rod

Art,
I would be inclined to go with a spey type grip. If you plan to cast in the traditional form. You may just want to lengthen the handle a few inches rather than the full length spey grip. Take a look at some of the switch rod handles on Bob Meiser's website (R.B. Meiser Rods to the left). You can get some ideas there. I am working on a 13' spey, and I used the preformed spey handles made by Pac Bay. They balance the rod nicely (Pflueger Trion7/8 & Windcutter Spey Line). I inverted A8 seat, so now it downlocks. This helped with balancing to this reel.
If you needed a longer foregrip, you could glue rubberized or burl cork rings to either end and turn(sand) them down. It would add ~1.5". RB Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
