A bit curious about your thoughts/experience on Cabela's XML blanks? Curious because they claim 63 million modulus and yet good toughness. (Yes, know that modulus is only one part of the equation.) A few years back, Loomis made their blanks to their specs. No longer but these are still made in the USA. They do not seem particularly lightweight.
Anyway, would love to hear thoughts and experiences on these blanks. Thanks! Mo Re: Cabela's XML blanks? 63 mil?

You can make an unbreakable rod out of 100 million modulus fiber. It's not hard to do. Beef up the walls - heck, build a solid rod. You can run over that one with your truck and you aren't likely to harm it. But in so doing you also have to add more material to keep the stiffness up so the added weight removes much of the performance benefit you were hoping to achieve by moving to a higher modulus fiber to begin with.
Cabelas generally produces pretty nice rods and blanks. Many got their start with them. I doubt you'd find them to be anything but pretty darn good blanks, but the modulus number coupled with the "toughness" statement might tip you off that it's not going to be a particularly lightweight blank. No I have not used them, so what I just said in that last sentence is only an assumption. .............. Re: Cabela's XML blanks? 63 mil?

Mo,
I've recently held several XML's in my hands. They reminded me a bit All Star's Elite blanks which I'm familiar with. But XML seems to be lighter Pavel, Moscow, RU Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
