Need help seeing different factory blank colors and decals they come with.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone new of a website that shows the different rod blank colors with the decal that comes with the rod blanks. It would be great to see click-able thumbnails of high quality photos of the different rod blank manufacturers colors and decal that come with the blank. I want to start using more expensive blanks, but do not want to order on the basis of the small tiny photos available that I have found. I have been thinking about GL3 Mahogany, Rainshadow Lt. Olive green, Fenwick Brown, and others, but it wood be nice to have a better idea of the blank color and decal font that you would like to purchase. Sorry for the long winded question, have a great day, Rich.

Sorry pardner, but with very few exceptions are you going to see photos showing true blank color, and I don't think you will find any up tight photos of factory labels. Just curious, but why do you want to see photos of the labels?

Later,
Gerald Mc

Hi Gerald, I wanted to see photos of the labels because I hear that the higher quality blanks come with them, and was wondering if they have the blank information on them as far as line weight, lure weight, action. Also if they are nice graphics, or something I would think twice about even applying to the blank. I just figure that for blanks that are considerably more expensive than the kind I like for the price, there would be somewhere to see decent photo of what you are paying for. I kind of think you are paying for the name and the paint in some of the higher priced blanks as far as I can see by just the spec,s on the blanks. I guess I may just have to stick to the blanks I am used to keep experimenting with applying the finish myself. Gerald thank you for your reply and have a great day, Rich.

Rich,
The St Croix decals are just like the ones on the factory rods. Blank companies like Rainshadow have just a generic factory logo decal so they can use it on all blanks. Same goes for Lamiglas, the factory built rods have the info, bare blanks do not. Fenwick only sells some limited low end fly blanks. The Rainshadow green is a very striking, rich green, nothing like an olive. When the sun's on it I guess Crayon green is a good discription.

Thank you Spencer for your reply, it did tell me a lot of what I was wondering about decals. I have been trying to figure out a blank that would look good with nicely finished walnut wood handles. I think the GL3 Mahogany may look nice, also maybe a plum colored blank if it is the color I am thinking, certain greens could look nice. I just cannot tell with the photos I am able to find on the web, to small. Thank you for your reply, have a great day, Rich.

Rich,
Probably the best way to see what you are getting is to go to as many rodbuilding shows and events as you can. Go to those that have lots of vendors. Tom's show in Charlotte and a variety of others all over the country have a variety of vendors and manufacturers. Look in the directory for other builders in your area and visit them to see what they use. Get out and see what's going on. I believe there is a trade show in Las Vegas coming soon.
