I am refinishing two bamboo fly rods that have a set in some of the sections. I have read in articles that this can be removed by heating the cane. Can someone tell me how to go about this without damaging the sections? I will appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks much in advance! Gene Re: set in bamboo sections

Get with the good peolps at Golden Witch. I took the set out of a tip once with steam from a big pot on the stove, but it took a couple tries to get it right. Re: set in bamboo sections

A tea pot on the stove, work the set over the stream of steam, use your fingers and thumbs to bend the set the opposite direction that it is in.
If it is stripped you can also iron them, litterly... Tight lines, Art mrparramoure@yahoo.com. Re: set in bamboo sections

the advise to use the heat from a steam kettle is good advise. this will limit the temperature and prevent damage to the kane. it is not the moilsture in the steam but the heat. allow the heat to build in the kane slowly. it will get soft and by bending it the oposite direction and holding the bend till it cools slightly should get it done. don't over bend. don't use a heat gun since i think this can build too much heat and damage the kane. I started in rod building by fixing bambo rods years ago. What I did to take the set out was to tape the section to a curtain rod ( any straight surface would do, pvc pipe etc.) and let them set over winter. Of course if you are doing this for a cuctomer he mat not want to wait that long.
