Has anyone tried the zipcast that is advertised to make your fly line go farther? What did you think of it?

I'm not an expert fly fisherman, but I bought some, tried it and liked it. It works just as it's advertised

Any decent fly line cleaner will accomplish the same thing. I've been using the same bottle of Glide or about 5 years. I clean all my fly lines at least once a year and if I use a rod in particularly dirty water, like some lakes that are know to hold carp or bass, I'll clean it after fishing there. The main thing is to clean the line and get the gunk out of the microscopic pores in the coating. With prices of fly lines being what they are, I try to make mine last as long as possible. I have some that are over 10 years old, still cast as far as I need to cast them and still float. If I was a tournament caster, maybe I could tell the difference, but I seriously doubt that most people can tell the difference. There are just too many variables that can effect casting distance to say that any product will give you more distance and be able to measure it. A casting stroke that fits the flex pattern of the rod will do more for distance than anything else.

There is a big difference in Zipcast and any other fly line cleaner or lube on the market. Totally different composition. No matter how good your line seems, even new out of the box, Zipcast will make it better. This isn't just another sticky silicone line dressing. There is nothing else like it. It quickly cleans a line in just one or two passes and at the same time imparts a dry lubricant and protectant to the line. Again, there is simply nothing else like this on the market for fly lines.

The only possible drawback is that the treatment only lasts for a couple trips, then you need to reapply it. But it's so easy and quick to do that it's really not an issue.

For many years I used Russ Peak line dressing. It worked great but was a pain in the *** to put on. You had to apply it and then buff it off like you were waxing a car or something. In hot weather it would get sticky. But when fresh it was pretty darn good. Then it got harder to find and maybe even ceased production and I just stopped using line cleaners and dressings.

In Charlotte I bought a bottle of the zipcast. Tom's not kidding you. The stuff goes on easy and makes the line slick as greased lightning. It will not get sticky. I've taken to applying it before each trip. I just strip the line off, wet the pad and apply it as I wind the line back in. Then I'm ready to go fishing. I like it. When this bottle is gone I'll order another.

The best stuff I've tried, it even helped a clear intermediate Cortland line that a friend ruined by cleaning it. Don't know if I'd say it was 100%, but the difference was enough that he has gotten over a year more use out of it.

Ditto what Spencer said. Best stuff I've used. I now include a bottle of it with every fly rod I sell. I figure if it helps this much maybe the fishermen will attribute it to my fly rod building skills!! Seriously, I would be very surprised if you tried this stuff and didn't like it. Just head and shoulders above common fly line dressings.

Scroll down to the bottom and read the last post in that thread. The guy isn't kidding. This stuff is totally amazing. I bought one bottle and after my friends tried it they all went back and got their own. I'm on my third bottle now in 2 seasons and would hate to go fly fishing without it. It really does make a difference even on brand new lines.
