That might work. I would get some of the new waterslide paper from Decal Connection (on the left) Great stuff!! Jimi can also make you gold or silver metallic labels in any font available on a computer or simply write it as you want it, scan it and email to Jimi and he can make a decal very quick and inexpensivelt.
Check out their web site for some smaples/ideas Mike Re: sighning blank

Don't know what CP is. Tried the scotch tape you can still see the edges of the tape. Re: sighning blank

The main reason decals tend to lift is because they are not adhereing well along the edges. Once any finish gets under any area, it will lift. To make decals stick better and get rid of bubbles, try wrapping a layer of thread over them with medium tension, just like an under wrap. That should sqeeze out any bubbles and give enough pressure for the adhesive to stick. remove the wraps after 10-15 minutes, then run a coat or two of color preserver (CP). Re: sighning blank

Also, probably the main culprit with those edges lifting is cutting out the decal with a razor blade or exacto knife. Use a quality scissor when cutting the decal to size. Putter Williston, ND Re: sighning blank
