Is anyone overlining this rod with any success? ie to a 6 wgt line. I have a buddy who is building rx8+ and wants to offload this one but all my lines are currently 6 weight..he figures it will overline no problem. opinions?
thanks! Re: rainshadow rx 8 5wgt

Overline it at what distance? Remember, 25 feet of 6-weight line weighs far less than 50 feet of 5-weight line.
Anytime you talk about overlining you need to consider the length of line you're talking about. Any rod will cast any line with no problem, at some distance. I really don't think most fly fishermen are really aware of the relationship between line number and weight per the length. ......... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/30/2005 05:00PM by Tom Kirkman. as I fish a mix of still and moving water..the distances vary (some close in < 30ft and moving out on stillwater)....you're right..I haven't made that connection in those terms....I guess I am asking about general castability and being able to enjoy fishing the rod in a variety of circumstances. Hi Peter! Is this a 2, 3, or 4pc? Theoretically shouldn't make much of a dif, but I've noticed the 4's are often a little "under-rated" and are closer to 1 line wieght heavier. As Tom implies above, it certainly will cast a 6wt line nicely at SOME distance(s), and those distances are likely only 5-10 ft less than what it will cast a 5wt line nicely. Those blanks were WONDERFUL casting blanks and capable of sending line out with authority, so I really don't think you'll have any issues.
Enjoy! It's a nice blank! :) Re: rainshadow rx 8 5wgt

The blank in question is 3 piece...and I suppose that it is not the end if the world if I end up spooling up a 5 weight line.....
