Came across some fine nylon monofilament used for beadwork, and wondered if anyone has used this stuff for the "invisible" wraps, such as can be attained with fine pearl silk and epoxy, no CP. It has a shimmer that only shows when viewed at an angle, but is clear when viewed full on.
Can it be used, and does it present any problems with epoxy penetration, etc. seeing as I don't think the monofilament will soak up any epoxy. Re: Invisible wraps

You won't like it much. Once you finish it, you'll have a silver tinted wrap. It won't be clear. And, any epoxy will easily peel right off the mono. The slick mono surface will repel the epoxy to some extent. It won't adhere.

Ted,
As Tom said, you won't like it. I know I just HAD to try it. Looked awful. Luckily, Tom was correct, and the epoxy was very easy to remove so I could rewrap. Good Luck! Buddy Re: Invisible wraps

I have seen bamboo rod makers use white silk for the wraps. When epoxied the silk turns transparent like noncolor preserved nylon turns translucent. The finished guide appears as if only the epoxy is holding it on. Mike Re: Invisible wraps

Thanks guys.
It's a transparent look that i'm after, something that'll just show a shimmer of thread. I'm thinking the fact that epoxy won't penetrate the wrap has something to do with tinting it silver. Will stick with the pearlescent silk. Ted. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
