When you say thread art, do you mean weaving or cross wraps? Doc Ski has a really great DVD about weaving, I think Mudhole sells it or you can order it direct from Doc. I don't know if there are any DVD's about cross wraps, have to let the cross wrap wizards answer that.

Dale Clemens' book on Thread Art is supposed to be good.

The Clemens book Advanced Custom Rod Thread Art IS good! But it assumes you already know how to do the wraps and just provides you with patterns. For the best basic rod thread art instructions, Tom Kirkman's book Rod Building Guide would be your best bet.

Doc's video is as good as any. Artie Herbert might still be making his too.

Here is some illustrated instructions for some basic decorative wraps [www.leapinbass.com] I don't know of any instructional DVD's, but their are 2 books by Dale Clemens that go into thread art (one, Custom Thread Art is devoted exclusively to it) and there is a great Computer program, Visula Wrap, that will allow you to design, layout and build wraps on your computer. It is amazing. There is a link to the site on the left. Type in visualwrap in the search window at the top of this page and you will get tons of info.

Keep in mind that it is a potentially dangerous addiction, causing you to shamelessly hang around fabric stores on thread delivery days!

Flex Coat also has some "step by step" stuff. I use there pattern for my Thunderbird [www.rodbuilding.org]
I then add alittle spice to it you can say. I have also used stuff from Leapnbass like Mike mentioned. And I use the book from Dale Clemens, Custom Rod Thread Art.
