Ferrule Question

I am currently working on building a Rainshadow 1267, spinning. My question is concerning wrapping the ferrule and test casting. I have built several rods that require a guide to be set at the ferrule and I generally incorporate the guide wrap and ferrule wrap into one. With previous rods this was no problem because I knew the exact layout prior to building the rod. With the 1267, I would like to test cast before setting the guides, how is this accomplished with having a guide set at the ferrule and not being able to epoxy the ferrule wrap. I have never in the past test casted any rods without the ferrule wrapped and epoxied, since this is a customer's rod I don't feel brave enough to start now. Thanks for any help.

Sincerly,
Ron

Try masking tape to hold the guides in place and a as light a weight to test cast, ie a clear plastic bobber like the ones used to cast ultra light lures on a a 2 lb spinner.

I do that and it works for me

What I have done is to quickly wrap some thread on the ferrule without any finish. This takes little time and I feel that this should be strong enough to hold while test casting. I also use masking tape to hold the guides on.

Ron,

I also just use a 'temporary' wrap on the ferrule before test casting. The epoxy is cosmetic/sealing, it's the thread that reinforces.

Masking tape is plenty for the guides. Heck, I've FISHED with guides taped on before. Works.

Good Luck!

Buddy
