Bamboo Refinish Need Tips

Ok, I goofed guys! My apologies for not reading the rules!
So, I've been approached by a relative to refinish an old bamboo rod that was given to him. My questions in brief are, what is the best way to remove the reel seat as well as the grip? What is the best way to remove the old varnish and revarnish? All the ferrules seem tight so these should not have to be replaced. The rod is a 9' 3pc and reads "Arrowhead" above the grip. Any ideas on this rod or is it just your run of the mill bamboo rod? Funny thing is it does not have a stripping guide, doesn't look like it ever had one either.
Any help on these questions would be great as well as tips on materials to use.
Thanks guys!

Sounds like a Japanese rod. Not worth much. You can just take a knife and cut off cork.
Thanks Dave

Manuel,

I was just faced with a similar project.

I found the information you are seeking by doing a search here under 'bamboo refinishing' or 'refinishing bamboo'.

Lots of information there.

Good Luck!

Buddy
