Last night I finally finished my first fly rod for my dad. A couple of things. I had it on the drod dryer all night long and this morning it was still tacky. Does it take longer to set up to the touch? Or did I not mix the rod finish enough? If I didnt mix it properly, what can I do now?

Another thing. I got up in the middle of the night and found the rod fell off the drier and one wrap (where the 2 piece rod goes together) had a sag in the rod finish. How do I go about soothing it out.

Any suggestions to either of these would be greatly appreciated.

It could be that you did not mix equal parts or mix well or it could be that the room it's curing in is cool and it will be fine by this time tomorrow. If it is tacky tomorrow, mix up a fresh batch and put a very thin second coat on and it will cure - assuming you mix the second batch well.

As far as the sag, after the stuff cures you can slice off the sag with a razor blade, sand lightly to smooth and then recoat lightly. Or, since it's only one ferrule wrap, just cut that one off and redo it - might be simpler.

On the sag......my wife cut off my dryer too early one night and I recieved a few sags on the bottom side of a couple guide feet on my son's new rod. I trimmed them with a razor being careful NOT to go too deep, then took 1500grit wet sand paper and smoothed out the trim cut to a nice round sanded job and recoated. Turned out very very nice. I'd never cut off a guide for a sag unless it's completely ruined after having done this repair.

...if the finish set up completely. If it didn't, this may not be the option. Re-wrapping would probably be the only way to go, then...
