Anyone know where to obtain the rubber plug material that is used in the male ferule section of blanks?

Use Rod Bond. This was just recently discussed.

I have used the rod bond twice on the same blank and has it come free both times, (inside of ferule was completely clean before application). The rod in question is a 10' - 9 weight fly blank wrapped as a Steelhead float rod, (spinning). After load/battle in colder temperatures is when it frees itself. I have not been able to locate any source for the solid rubber stock thus far but know it has to be out there as manufacturers have access to it.

go to your local hardware store and get a small bottle cork that fits the hole in the male ferrule. cement it in flush and coat the end with rod bond. You can color the end of the cork with a permanent marker. Ralph

There was an article in RodMaker recently that explained how to make a tool to achieve an internal water break free surface. That should solve the problem of it not staying. I have also use GE black silicone caulk with good success, bought it at a hardware store in a small tube, about 6" long. It's more pliable than Rod Bond so maybe it would tend to stay in place a bit better.

I have used the same GE black silicone caulk that was mentioned by Gerry, above, for the last 8 or 9 years. Always satisfied with the results. To quote a famous ad: "Try it, you'll like it."

Ask the wife if you can borrow her glue gun. Squirt some of the hotglue into the male ferrule until it oozes out , flip the blank over and dip the end in a cool glass of water and then trim the bump with a razor blade . MAKE SURE YOU PUT HER GLUE GUN BACK WHEN YOUR DONE .
