I am a scientist. I use both systems. It is hard for me to see how the "metric" system is "superior" to the English system. Both work just fine. Both are traceable to international standards for accuracy.
Why do we speak English? Should the world use a common language? Right now which "system" we use is optional. Lets keep it that way. If you like meters, then use them. For heavens sake, don't get congress involved in it again. Quick, how much air should I put in my tire in the metric system?? Not so neat and easy easy as 28-30 psi, huh? Edited 2 time(s). If it works, use it. Stan Re: Metric system

Here in Europe i put in 2.5 atm in the tires, don't know how much psi that is. I use the system which works best for me. On the Internet, i use the language which works best (so english). But in rodbuilding i realy like you guys to switch over to metric. You can get into serious trouble when using both systems. I recall an balloon designed in The Netherlands (centimeter sizes) which was build in England with sizes in inches. It now can take a lot more people then it was designed for, but can only take off with almost no wind.
