I've been saving wine bottle corks for several years because the cork seems to be of fairly good quality. compared to cork rings.

There's got to be a bunch of ways a rodbuilder can use these things!

Suggestions appreciated - wife want's me to discard them.

Use them for seat arbors or even small grips for ultralights or ice rods.

One I thought of just now is one I'm going to use myself. Use them as tip protectors on blanks. No matter how careful I am, I always wind up jabbing my ceiling with tips. It's only a matter of time before I break one.

How about using those wine bottle corks for re-enforcing the hollow ferrule ends and butt ends of the blanks ?
Have you thought of using them for making (lures) poppers for fishing ?
Also might try using them for making circular inserts into rod handles for decoration/trim.
If they're big enough how bout trim rings in handles ?
If they're big enough for a rod handle cork ring, have you thought of cutting them, shaping, and flocking them, either individually or all together for a handle ?
Just some ideas I thought of. I used to save cork stoppers too.

If you don't turn your own cork, they are good for pit filler. I've sanded them down to a pile of dust, mixed some dust with a glue or epoxy and filled in those anoying grip pits that are often present in the most unfortunate places. Also,if you are a fly-guy, they can make good, jumbo-sized poppers.

Butt caps, small fighting butts, arbors, lures, padding for the end of your rod tube and pretty much anything else. Champagne corks, after they dry out and swell up some, are typically larger in diameter.

If you get some Champagne corks put them in small bowl of water in the microwave and nuke them for about 10 mins they expand dry them out they make great but caps and arbors.
