After wrapping up my Batson RX6 SB 720-4, and christening it several times over, disaster has struck. Took a fall landing a fish in a rocky area, and shattered the tip section. This'll have to be replaced. The part I'm asking about is the butt section ferrule. The male ferrule has snapped right where the female edge sits when fully assembled. The break is similar to No. 5 in Ralph O'Quinn's repair article, except it's a cleaner break, with little splintering. However, there is a little strip of graphite that has pulled away. I'm wondering if it's repairable in the same way, and is it possible to maintain the ferrule fit and strength. I don't want to trash the split cork grip and the wooden ergonomic skeleton insert.

No. Went down to land a fish, slipped and fell. $200 out the window. Will have to save up, bite the bullet and get the sections replaced. Looked at the snapped ferrule, and it's very badly split right down the length. The remainder of the butt section may well be of use for some other project though. Getting my 3pce sent from home.

That rod is repairable, I have repaired several similar disasters. It amounts to finding a piece of materiel to fit the female ferrule, then splicing that materiel onto your butt section. The trick is to make the new repaired butt section the same lenghth as the original, You usually can't duplicate the length exactly but you can come close -- within an inch or so. You are makeing a repair in the area of the rod which is pretty stiff so the action is usually not effected very much. Thanks a million Ralph, that would be very handy. I also have a piece of graphite rod section that fits, and can be used to make a whole new butt section, but like I mentioned, the split grip and wood ergo-skeleton seat are totally my handiwork, and I'd like to keep them. Will e-mail asap.
