While in the Dry Tortugas last week I was fishing for Black Grouper. As some of you know, you need to pretty much have to lock down the drag. As luck would have it, I set my heavy Star Rod in the holder for a second to grab a drink, either a big black, or a big shark took my bait, and "SNAP" the butt broke right under the reel seat. Is this repairable? If so, How? What are my options? Re: Broken rod butt !

If this is a tubular rod, then it can probably be repaired. Check the article on rod repair in the online library here.
I suspect you'll have to use an inner sleeve, very heavy walled fiberglass, to splice the break. If you have the room and can somehow make an oversleeve splice on the outside and then put your grip back over that, then you'd have an ever better repair. Obviously this particular break has taken place in an area that receives a great deal of stress. It can be repaired but will have to be done wisely in order to have something you'll trust for this type of fishing. .............. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/30/2005 09:01AM by Tom Kirkman.
